Subject Number 046-1204 Reinstatement of Dr. Todd Sloan Koppel

Subject Numbers Regarding Health Provider Authorizations

Authorization No. 201176-5W

August 20, 2019

Pursuant to Workers' Compensation Law Section 13-d(4), the Chair of the New York State Workers' Compensation Board (“Chair”) had exercised her authority to temporarily suspend Dr. Todd Sloan Koppel’s authorization to treat injured workers in the New York State workers’ compensation system effective March 19, 2018 (Subject Number 046-1043).

The temporary suspension was based on the Chair’s designee’s investigation, which revealed that Dr. Koppel had been indicted by a New Jersey Grand Jury and charged with first-degree conspiracy and money laundering for allegedly submitting more than $4.4 million in fraudulent bills in a medical kickback scheme.

Upon receipt of proof that the indictment against Dr. Koppel has been dismissed, the Chair has rescinded the temporary suspension of Dr. Koppel, and has reinstated his authority to treat injured workers effective August 20, 2019. The Medical Director’s Office will restore Dr. Koppel to the list of providers authorized to treat injured workers as of August 20, 2019.

Any questions regarding the authorized lists should be referred to the Medical Director’s Office at 1 (800) 781-2362.
