Authorization No. 243363-9W
April 3, 2018
Pursuant to Workers' Compensation Law Section 13-d(4), the Chair of the New York State Workers' Compensation Board has exercised her authority to temporarily suspend Dr. Alexandru Burducea’s authorization to treat injured workers within the New York State workers’ compensation system effective April 2, 2018. Dr. Burducea's last known business addresses are:
300 Arleigh Road
Douglaston, New York 11363
Rehabilitation Medicine Center of NY
80 Maiden Lane #604
New York, New York 10038
The Chair’s designee’s investigation has revealed that on or about March 16, 2018, Dr. Burducea was indicted in Manhattan federal court and charged with allegedly participating in a scheme to receive bribes and kickbacks in the form of fees for sham education programs (“Speaker Programs”) from a pharmaceutical company, and that he allegedly received approximately $68,400.00 in Speaker Program fees in exchange for prescribing large volumes of Fentanyl Spray.
Therefore, the Chair believes that Dr. Burducea may be guilty of misconduct, and that such misconduct would detrimentally affect the quality of care provided to injured workers.
Dr. Burducea is prohibited from rendering treatment and care to injured workers while his authorization is temporarily suspended. Reports submitted by Dr. Burducea for services rendered prior to April 2, 2018, are valid, but are invalid for any services rendered on or after that date. Requests to cross-examine Dr. Burducea for services rendered prior to April 2, 2018, should not be denied due to the suspension of his authorization.
This suspension remains in effect until further notice. Any questions regarding the authorized lists should be referred to the Medical Director’s Office at 1 (800) 781-2362.
