Investigation had revealed that on December 20, 2016, Dr. Savino was indicted by a federal grand jury in Newark, New Jersey, with one count of conspiring to commit violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Federal Travel Act, and wire fraud; three substantive violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute; three substantive violations of the Federal Travel Act; and three substantive violations of wire fraud, for allegedly receiving at least $25,000.00 in cash bribes from Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services LLC (BLS) in exchange for test referrals.
Dr. Savino had his authorization to treat injured workers temporarily suspended by the Board on January 13, 2017.
Subsequent investigation has revealed that on or about October 25, 2017, Dr. Savino was convicted of ten (10) counts of conspiring to commit violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Federal Travel Act, and wire fraud.
Dr. Savino is prohibited from rendering treatment and care to injured workers. Requests to cross-examine Dr. Savino for services rendered prior to January 13, 2017 should not be denied due to the temporary suspension and subsequent revocation of his authorization.
